Eye of Rhythm
TALAYAN 2.0 — A Study of Change
तालायन
Talayan is a living collaboration between drum kit and tabla, tracing how three great rhythmic traditions, the deep pulse of Africa, the improvisation and swing of jazz, and the cyclical, centuries-old grammar of Indian classical tala, meet, transform, and become something new.
At its heart are two artists in ongoing conversation: Siemy Di, a drummer moving fluidly between jazz, Western, and African rhythmic worlds, and Manmohan Dogra, tabla player and carrier of the Indian classical tradition, answering that call with the melodic voice of the tabla.
For this edition, the circle grows. Etienne Bartholomew joins on sitar, bridging the percussive language of tabla and drums with raga's gravity and improvisational freedom. Varun Guru, composer and guitarist rooted in the Carnatic tradition, threads South Indian raga lines through the electric guitar.
This isn't a fusion of genres sitting side by side, it's rhythm as a shared language, four traditions finding common pulse in real time, in the same room.
